i learned about it when i first tried a demo of the newly released MW4: Vengeance. was hooked ever since.
i'm not exactly an oldtimer, but i still loved the time i didn't spend with the games. those being mechwarrior 4 (all) and mech commander (both)

Tabletop, several years ago. Then I read almost all the novels and played the games. So far this game is just Solaris jocks fighting in two arenas. Hopefully it has a lot more MechWarrior in the features still waiting to be implemented.

Cresent Hawks Inception by infocom... one of the first games I purchased for my C64 in the late 80's. Later found the activision battletech powerhits for PC a few years later which had both infocom BT games and the 1st mechwarrior... then I discovered the novels (Tor published if i recall)

First learned of MechWarrior about 1988, seeing it on the hobby store shelf.

A year later I got the first computer game of that name and played the HECK out of it.

Gotten and played each game since (although I had to borrow MW3 off a friend later on after playing MW4:Veng as I was living on the cheap with no computer when it came out).

Had been following the milieu for a couple of years before all this started though, and joined up with internet communities focused on this particular pastime since 1997, and been a Rules Lawyer ever since. :)

I started playing the table top in the late 80's before the video games came out.

i watched the tv show growing up, my cousin at a super nintindo and like when i had the nes we'd play silent service together, well we would play the mechwarrior game two player there. then i read the books from stackpole, and then i got a computer that could run mercs...my friend loaned me the games back in 6th grade so i was around 11 or 12, 13 years later i still have yet to return it. then back when mechwarriors 4 came out i bought both it and mechwarriors 3(i got a "gaming" computer as a present, before that i was using a 486)

i wasn't affiliated with any houses or clans in mechwarrior 4 and i can't remember the name i used, i do remember i always used the cameron star and i liked to pilot a raven and kill daishis, took me a while but boy was it funny.

Picked up the first edition of the BattleTech boxed set in the mid eighties (1985 or so) and have amassed a wealth of books, supplements, miniatures, etc over the intervening years along with playing nearly all incarnations of the world on PC games. Love the universe especially the Stackpole books and have been a Davion man since the first day (liked the symbolism of Sun and Sword).

Started from Mechwarrior 2 on DOS back in late 90s.
wasn't really into the game much, until I got Mechwarrior 2: Mercenaries later.

MW3, went back to MW2 Merc, MC gold, MC2, MW4, MW4 merc. Heck, I was hardcore enough to try MechAssault, but i couldn't take the way they lead my beloved game astray...
